The Google Clock alarm on Android has been temporarily turned off by Spotify
Google is working on a fix that should be available soon.
Google's Clock app for Android devices has recently seen an influx of one-star reviews on the Play Store as alarms mysteriously go silent. But it seems the reason is not the app itself, but where the audio is being sourced from.
Usually, when you set an alarm in the Clock app it plays audio when it is triggered, but that is no longer happening for some users. As Lilliputing reports, it looks like the culprit is Spotify, and more specifically, any alarm that uses Spotify to play audio for the alarm.
Google is aware of this issue and is working on fixing it, but for now it is recommended that Android users stop using Spotify for alarm sounds. Instead, select Audio from within Device Sounds while you wait for the fix to be rolled out. Those who didn't know that you could use Spotify in this capacity are probably glad they hadn't heard of the feature, but it was first introduced back in 2018.
The problem was introduced with the Spotify update on August 24, according to a post on the Spotify community site, with Google only confirming a fix was in the works on September 3. There were certainly many users left, very confused about the missing alarm. They were definitely ready to go off, but it turns out it wasn't their fault and they're not going crazy or deaf.
