Google One Adds a 5TB Plan for $24.99
Google closes the huge price gap between the existing 2TB and 10TB plans.
Google has decided to update the cloud storage options available to Google One subscribers in a bid to close a big price difference between the existing 2TB and 10TB plans.
Until now, Google offered 100GB, 200GB, 2TB, and 10TB storage upgrades costing $1.99, $2.99, $9.99, and $49.99 per month, respectively. The jump in price from 2TB to 10TB is huge, and Google has clearly realized it needed to offer something in between. As 9To5Google reports, a new 5TB subscription option is being introduced. It will cost $24.99 per month, or $249.99 for a whole year to save $49.89 in the process.
As well as offering additional cloud storage, paying for Google One unlocks access to smartphone backups, a VPN for your Android phone, 10% back in credit on Google Store purchases, discount pricing on hotels, one-tap access to experts who can help you use Google's products, and the ability to invite up to five family members on to your plan.
The 5TB plan is available, but not all users are able to see it as an option yet. It's unclear when Google started making it available, but if you don't see it yet, it's likely to appear in the coming days. With the removal of unlimited storage from Google Photos earlier this year, lots of Google account holders needed to upgrade their storage or look for an alternative service. The 5TB plan should make staying with Google easier to swallow, especially if you storage needs are only just bumping up against the 2TB plan's limit.
