WhatsApp iPhone users can now transfer chat history to Android
WhatsApp has enabled chat history transfer from iOS devices to some Android smartphones.
WhatsApp has announced that iPhone owners can now transfer messages, photos and videos to certain Android smartphones to make switching between platforms easier.
There are some notable limitations to this new freedom. WhatsApp said that data transfer is currently only available from iPhone to Samsung devices running Android 10 or higher, and requires the smartphone to be connected using a USB-C to Lightning cable.
WhatsApp said the feature will be available "soon on more Android devices." But it still appears to be a one-way transfer; The company does not provide any guidance for Android smartphone owners wishing to transfer their chat history to iPhone using the same process.
The company hinted at the possibility of this feature enabling data transfer in both directions. "This is just a start," WhatsApp said. “We look forward to making this option available for more people to switch between the platforms of their choice and chat with them securely.”
