Step 1: Fill Form 6


The first step is to fill Form 6 for voter card registration.  Citizen can file the application prescribed in Form 6, before the Electoral Registration Officer/Assistant Electoral Registration Officer of his/her constituency.


There are several ways to file an application:

 - Application containing copies of relevant documents may be filed personally before the concerned Electoral Registration Officer/Assistant Electoral Registration Officer.


Also, through the post can also be sent to the booth level officer of the polling area or can be handed over to him.



You can also file application online.

 Process to apply online:

 Go to the National Voters' Service Portal.

 Click on 'Online Application for New Voter Registration'.

 A new window will open with Form 6.

 Fill the form and submit.

 Step 2: Organize the required documents or documents with Form 6

 

 Some basic documents are required to submit it along with Form 6.  Also, remember that the documents need to be verified or certified before submission.

 It is necessary to submit ID proof.  Such as Passport, Driving License, PAN Card, Student Identity Card.

 Proof of residence or address is also required for submission.

 The address given to vote requires that you have been living there for six months.

 Any of the following documents will serve as proof of address:
 Current Pass Book of Bank/Farmer/Post Office,

 Passport,
 driving license,
 income tax assessment order,
 latest rent agreement,
 Latest telephone / electricity / gas connection / water bill for that address, either in the name of the applicant or / his/her immediate relative (parent).
 Any mail/post/letter delivered through the Indian Postal Department in the name of the applicant at the ordinary postal address.

 Note: If the above mentioned documents are not in your name but in the name of your landlord, then in this case he can sign an affidavit, which states that you live at the mentioned address.  If the address proof you are giving is in the name of your family member, then it is necessary to prove the relationship, for this a relationship certificate from your parents and marriage certificate is required, if the address  Registered in the name of husband or wife.

 If you are between 18 to 22, then it is necessary to submit age verification and any government recognized document will work for:

 - Birth certificate issued by the Municipal Authority or District Office of the Registrar of Births and Deaths or the Certificate of Baptism.

 - Birth certificate from a government or recognized school last attended by the applicant or any other recognized educational institution.

 - If he is 10th class pass, then 10th class mark sheet will suffice, but it should have date of birth as proof.

 3rd Step: Submission of Form 6

 

 You have to submit Form 6 to your nearest ERO (Electoral Registration Officer) along with attested documents.  After submitting your form you will get the receipt of submission.  It will take about a month or 45 days for the office to grant your voter ID status.  Either you will get call or mail for this.  If you don't get any of it then you can directly contact ERO office where you have submitted the form along with receipt which you got during submission.

 If the election comes and you do not have your voter ID, you can still cast your vote.  Your name is mentioned in the electoral list.  All you need to do is carry your driving license, PAN card, passport etc. as per your suitability.

 It can also happen:

 After receiving Form 6, ERO displays a copy of the form on the notice board, so that anyone can invite objections within a period of one week.  Also, ERO may ask the concerned booth level officer to visit the applicant's residence and verify the information given in the form.  Then, on completion of Form 6 and no objection is raised by any person, the ERO orders the inclusion of the name in the voter list.
